Hardship, unrest and anguish dominate the headlines making it a challenge for many to cope in today’s environment. While self-care tactics (i.e., exercise, eating right and getting enough sleep) are staples of universal dialog, the penchant for commonplace mental health-care discussion and tactics remains tepid.

As the dynamic Maya Angelou once said, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”  At some point in our lives, nearly every single one of us will endure a measure of mental health variation -e.g.  depression, anxiety or other imbalance – that could benefit from mental health-care. So why not let today’s swirling adversities be the impetus for raising mental health-care cognizance.

Resources such as Mental Health America, The JED Foundation and The National Council for Behavioral Health can help us learn how to cope and how to be more compassionate with both ourselves and others.

In Nevada, Governor Sisolak declared May as Mental Health Awareness Month and while Nevada still has a way to go, we are making strides as a state to raise a voice and provide more resources such as Nevada’s Crisis Support Services of Nevada. As Nevadans, our Battle Born nature should encourage us all to speak up and speak out. There’s no better time than now.

Taking care of every aspect of your health is essential. Nevada Health Link is your resource for qualified health plans that cover the 10 Essential Benefits, including mental health. We are also the only place eligible Nevadans can receive subsidies to help pay for monthly premiums.
