How does SHOP work?
You can shop for, compare, and select health group insurance plans for your business today by visiting the SHOP at HealthCare.gov. You can also call the SHOP at 800-706-7893.
Employers with 2-50 employees will be able to use Nevada Health Link’s SHOP to find and select plans for their employees to enroll in. Coverage will begin as early as January 2017.
Employers will start by visiting HealthCare.gov and then selecting the small business option. Then you’ll create an account, and enter your company and employee details.
After you’ve entered your company information, you will be provided a list of plans to choose from. You’ll be able to sort and compare these plans by the criteria that are most important to you, including deductible, premium, provider network and cost to you, the employer.
There are many tools on SHOP to help employers narrow down their choices and select the plan that is right for them, including a side-by-side comparison tool and an employer contribution calculator, which you can use to enter the amount you want to contribute and narrow down your plan options based on an employee’s cost after your contribution.
The health insurance plans available through SHOP are run by private health insurance companies, the same way small group plans are run now. The plans are categorized into four groups: platinum, gold, silver and bronze, so employers can more easily pick the plan that’s right for them. You can learn more about our plan categories here.
There is no designated open enrollment period for businesses, so employers can enroll according to their policy’s renewal date or whenever they choose starting November 1, 2016.
