Fine tuning a healthy lifestyle is never easy, and finding time for exercise is often one of the most challenging aspects to becoming fit. Even if you can’t get yourself to a gym, there are plenty of ways to exercise right at home. Home exercise is not only convenient, but is one of the best habits to develop and improve your personal wellness. Here are four different ways to take your home exercise to the next level.

  1. Use Gravity

By leveraging gravity in conjunction with your own body weight, you can improve your health and even build muscle. Now, when you hear that, the first thing that might come to mind is common exercises like push-ups or crunches, but there’s actually a lot more to it than that. Take, for example, side-lying hip abduction. This simple exercise requires you to lay on your side with your legs stretched out from your body, and then slowly raise and lower your top leg in a slow, controlled manner. Just don’t raise your leg beyond a 45-degree angle or you could hurt yourself.

For more information on other home workouts that don’t require anything beyond gravity, check out this website. They have a comprehensive list of different activities you can try at home that are equipment-free, and offer instructions on how to safely and effectively complete each exercise.

  1. Buy some equipment

While you don’t need any equipment to exercise at home, getting some could jumpstart your workout. Even buying some basic five- or eight-pound weights from a department store could open up additional exercise options and make otherwise simple exercises more rewarding. Some other easy-to-find equipment options are a jump rope, resistance bands or an exercise ball.

  1. Watch a video

While you can purchase video content to help guide you in your quest to be healthy, there’s also a wealth of free exercise videos online. Most videos of this kind tend to focus on cardio workouts and not strength building, but they are excellent at showing you how to optimize your workout. On top of this, they will often help you stay motivated during the entire course of a workout.

Exercise videos come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you like yoga, Zumba or anything in between, you can find it online. So take a second to look through some of the free content online and see if an exercise video can help you work out at home.

  1. Try the outdoors

Okay, so going outside doesn’t technically count as your own home, but it’s still a cost-effective way to exercise. This could include something more intense like running around a park or something simpler like walking to a nearby store instead of driving. The point is to just get out there.

Start Today

You don’t have to be an Olympic athlete to start exercising regularly. Even just 10 minutes a day can make a huge difference for staying healthy and improving one’s own wellness. In fact, something even more important than researching good workout regimens or buying new equipment, is starting now. If you can develop a good habit of working out every day, a healthier life is inevitable. While it may seem difficult, just remember that it’s not impossible. If you try hard enough and employ some of the strategies listed above, you can find the time to exercise daily.

Along with exercise, make sure you have the right health care coverage for you. If you currently don’t have health insurance, Nevada Health Link is here to help. In other words, certain life events or situations, such as job loss, income change, marriage/divorce or birth/adoption of a child, may allow you to enroll in an insurance plan through Nevada Health Link outside of the annual open enrollment period.
