Despite our best efforts, life will always find a way to surprise us. Sometimes, that surprise comes in the form of a medical fee or bill. And while health insurance is meant to save us from these financially-debilitating, worst-case scenarios, figuring out which plans offer real value can be tricky. Unless, of course, you have a dedicated health marketplace on your side. At Nevada Health Link, we take the guesswork out of premiums with our window shopping tool.
Here’s how it works: First, you provide us with some basic information about your age, income and family size. Then, we crunch the numbers and tell you what plans and subsidies you may qualify for. We show you up front what you can expect to spend on health insurance. You can also use this tool to see if you are eligible for Medicaid (though, as Medicaid varies by state, you will need to contact your state’s Medicaid office for additional enrollment questions or concerns).
Our plans generally fall into three different “metal” categories that correspond to overall coverage and monthly cost. The categories are gold, silver and bronze, with a fourth category of minimal coverage being called catastrophic. For more information on the different level of plans, check out our blog here.
If you currently don’t have health insurance, Nevada Health Link is here to help. As part of a Qualifying Life Event (QLE), you may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). In other words, certain life events or situations, such as job loss, income change, marriage/divorce or birth/adoption of a child, may allow you to enroll in an insurance plan through Nevada Health Link outside of the annual open enrollment period.
Once you’ve seen what options are available to you, don’t wait to get coverage. If you have additional questions regarding enrollment, you can use our in-person assistance tool to find licensed brokers, agents and navigators who can walk you through the entire application and enrollment process. Alternatively, or if you need immediate assistance, you can email Nevada Health Link directly at customerserviceNVHL@exchange.nv.gov.
